St. Patrick’s Day Recipes and Menu Ideas

I have to admit. I have never done a lot for St. Patrick’s Day recipe and menu ideas. Every once in awhile when the boys were young, I might start off the morning with some Green Eggs and Ham that would make Dr. Seuss proud, then pop some corn and toss it with a drop of green food coloring to finish off the school day with a fun green snack, but since there’s not a drop of Irish blood in me, nor do I believe in “luck,” I didn’t prioritize it. Yet when my son researched the history behind St. Patrick, I went ahead and bought his biography and it has surely made the true reason behind this holiday come alive. If you’re looking for some fun St. Patrick Day Traditions and ideas, check out my post from earlier this week.

This year, I am adding my St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispie Treats to celebrate. Such a fun and easy way to add a touch of green into your St. Patrick’s Day Menu.

Do you have any fun plans for St. Patty’s Day?

  3. My oldest is named Patricia and for a while she thought St. Patty’s Day was her day! 🙂 Learning the true meaning behind the day made it that much more special. We celebrate by reading about St. Patrick and having Corned Beef and Cabbage for dinner.

  5. We’ve never done a lot to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – except enjoying something green and minty for dessert! I do like cabbage – but that corned beef must be an acquired taste!

  7. I didn’t know the history or didn’t remember (which is probably the case since I’m getting old. LOL!) Thank you for sharing! I think we will make something green and/or minty. Im not one for corned beef and cabbage.

Thank you so much for having this Meme! I love finding new recipes to try! 🙂

  11. Interesting to read this! I’m not Irish, but my grandma’s birthday is that day, so we grew up celebrating for a different reason. We always have to wear green just to honor my grandma!

  12. We’re not Irish and have never really done anything to celebrate other than wearing green to avoid being pinched; however, I’m determined to prepare something for my family this Thursday in honor of St. Patrick. 🙂 In the meantime, I’m linking up my latest muffin, Peanut Butter Muffins. They taste just like a peanut butter cookie only not as sweet. Enjoy!

  13. Boy, I think i’ve tried just about everything to celebrate St. Pat’s Day, to mixed results! Corned beef & cabbage went over like the proverbial liver. I’ve dyed foods green (green fettuccine looks better than you think), but now I’ve resigned myself to just putting green food coloring in the kids’ milk, and having a bottle of Guinness in honor of the day.

  14. Wow! You’re so talented! I’m copping out this year and buying in St Pat’s day treats. (In case you’re interested I bought some pretty decent gift baskets from http://www.gifts.com as they deliver last minute). It’s a big event in our house!

  16. I was trying to figure out what to bake for St.Patrick’s day, but I got tons of inspiration here. Can’t wait to try some of the recipes.

Thank you for hosting. I linked up my Orange cheesecake.

  17. Hi Jen! This week I am sharing my recipe for Crunchy Pecan Cookies. These cookies are naturally gluten free because the little bit of flour used is potato starch.
    Thanks for hosting!

  18. My husband and I love corned beef, but the kids….not so much! So this year I’m making St. Patty’s Day special by making cabbage and onions as part of our evening meal.
Love all of your ideas for celebrating the day.

  19. The only thing green in my dish is spinach so it might not help you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day … but its a wonderful way to welcome Spring.

  20. I always claimed st. paddys day as my holiday because my birthday was 3 days before, but that said, other than the occasional green jello or beer when i was older, I never went in much for the green food. That said, i did make turnip greens last night! I am linking up my baby steps to a rockin life to share tips and tricks for a happier life and a way to find more me time. All the best, Alex

  21. Your healthy alternative is a really cute idea for St. Patricks Day. I love to encourage my grandkids to eat vegetables. My kids always ate everything but I find my grandchildren need some encouragement.

The cupcakes are of course my favorite but I should probably stick with the green peppers and dip as well.
